Garage48 celebrates first birthday with another event in Tallinn, Estonia

April 15, 2011
On April 15-17th the second Garage48 weekend startup bootcamp takes place in Tallinn, Estonia, celebrating exactly 1 year from the first Garage48. The event, each time attended by over 100 people, is full of great startup ideas, hard work and fun. The venue is this time Tehnopolis Ülemiste City smart business center in Tallinn, Estonia.
Garage48 is the fastest growing startup bootcamp program in Europe and Africa that aims to produce working services in 48 hours. The first Garage48 event took place one year ago in Estonian IT College. After that  events followed in Latvia and Finland. In 2011 Garage48 will expand to Africa and organize events in Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana and South African Republic. Other European locations are already on the pipeline.

Garage48 is a great place to start your international service and get noticed. “We have a growing international community of over 2000 people around the World, who actively follow our activities and have great interest in startups and services our events help to produce”, said Martin Villig, one of the founders of Garage48.

"With each event, the quality of the ideas has improved a lot. Before the event two brainstorming events took place at Garage48 Hub office, where the ideas got feedback from experienced Estonian startup entrepreneurs and investors. We received over 50 ideas and about 30 of them will be presented on the event. Hopefully half of those ideas will be working services by Sunday evening," said Martin Villig. “There is much more interest in mobile services this time,” he added.

Due to the success of Garage48 events, more and more people have interest to participate. All the 120 places to the event were sold out almost two weeks before.

This time also 5 talented young musicians will participate, who found each other through Bändcamp. During the time people are working, the musicians are composing theme songs inspired by the projects. Also a Garage48 theme song will be composed by the end of the last day.

The event starts at 5pm on Friday evening with presentations of various product ideas. The teams are formed and derived organically during first hours, after which they start active product development and marketing activities. There are various skill-sets and roles found in a team including: Entrepreneurs, Project Managers, Designers, Developers and Programmers.

By the end of 48 hours, the teams will have finished working products or prototypes. On Sunday evening, starting at 5:00pm, all teams participating at Garage48 will showcase their product with live demo on stage in front of all participants and big audience. The jury and audience will choose their favorite team or service.
