Garage48 community is gathering in Tallinn for the eco-innovative solutions

On 6-8th October Garage48 community is gathering in Tallinn, where we are devoting ourselves to find eco-innovative solutions - action towards the sustainable future and growth. This time Garage48 partnered up with Estonian Ministry of the Environment, financed by European Union European Regional Development Fund.

Estonia is holding the Presidency of the European Union Council during the second half of 2017. As a part of the Presidency program, we aim to highlight eco-innovation initiatives that address circular economy through creating favorable conditions for new business models, increasing the use of ICT, increasing transparency about environmental use and impacts, raising consumer awareness and engagement, creating benefits for implementation of extended producer responsibility. Environmental problems are complex and integrated to everyday production and consumption patterns and value chains. So the solutions have to be “out of the box” for the already developed patterns to change. If YOU want to make the world a better place, then this hackathon is for YOU!

But what's even better - we are selecting 20 talented & kick-ass participants from our Garage48 community all over Europe to fly in with us to the hackathon event, all expenses covered!

We are bringing together 100+ circular economy expert,
environmental specialist, software developers, marketers, project managers, designers, UI/UX gurus, visionary entrepreneurs from around the world to build innovative and disruptive concepts. Teams will work for 48 hours and deliver a working prototype on the final day.

The Winner of Garage48 Circular Economy Hackathon will be awarded a with awesome prizes. I bet you want to know why Tallinn? Why Estonia?

For all TOP GEAR lovers, Jeremy Clarkson has said: “Some say that Estonia does not really exist, it is a utopia of leading politicians, which is to be presented as an area on towards to move. Some say that there are only trees and swamps in Estonia. Some people say that people in Estonia do not interact with each other, they use strange glowing screens for daily communication, which looks like a big S-letter on a light blue background. Some say that in Estonia you can never be alone, even when you are alone, you actually are not alone. Everyone is in contact with each other. Some say that every Estonian person has his own startup, and this is the currency used. Some say that the name was spoken by hundreds of years ago, and the local people already knew what kind of race the internet and the e-world would be doing. This also gave birth to this name. All we know is it's called Estonia. Welcome to Estonia!”

Still not convinced? Hmm.. How about this.

Tallinn's Old Town is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Estonia has distinctly more women than men. For every 100 females in Estonia, there are 84 men. Even though we have more women we have a non-Olympic sport of wife carrying, and Estonian men are very good at it. Estonian invented event a new sport called kiiking, in which participants attach themselves to giant steel swings that rotate a full 360 degrees.
Estonia is a very flat country. Can you believe or even imagine it? We have no mountains, just hills that we call mountains. This you need to see yourself.

Estonia is an E-city and Tallinn is widely recognized as one of the world’s most technology-oriented cities, offering a range of cutting-edge solutions from e-residency to mobile parking. Tallinn, for example, is home to the world development headquarters of Skype, Transferwise, Pipedrive, Taxify, Fits.me, Adcash, Lingvist etc.

We have a free Wi-Fi and it’s available just about everywhere, hotels, swamp/forest, restaurants, cafés, conference center and even public squares and parks. Yeah, that's pretty amazing.
